The village pub - The Wise Man                                                       wisemanicon

The Wise Man has a long established reputation in the south Dorset with the building becoming a public house in 1938 having previously been a residential cottage. Originally part of the Floyer Estate the origins of the property date back over four hundred years.

Food has been part and parcel of The Wise Man since the early 1970's when sandwiches were extremely popular. Attracting a healthy clientele from Dorchester at lunchtimes etc. The extent and standard of the food has progressed a great deal since those days and current head chef Leigh and his team endeavour to create great flavours from locally sourced ingredients.

Following an extensive fire in 2006 The Wise Man was extensively rebuilt to return to the heart of the village two years later, although it seemed a good deal longer for the regulars who greatly missed 'their local'.

The Wise Man is a favourite with those seeking refreshment and sustenence whilst walking the Hardy Trail whilst the enclosed garden is 'family friendly' with popular barbeques during the summer months. It is at that time of year, if you are visiting in the evening, that you may see the local Frome Valley Morris dancers in action adding to the country atmosphere of this charming village.
